IMMEDIATE OPENING FOR PROJECT ASSISTANT

The Orangutan Health Project (OHP) is in immediate need of a Project Assistant to begin as soon as possible.


OHP, located on Sumatra in Indonesia, is an active research project investigating the special behaviours and ecological conditions necessary for the maintenance of health in wild orangutans.

This is a voluntary position with a cost to participate of US $950. This covers all basic living expenses at the project (food, water and accommodation) and helps to underwrite research expenses. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to/from Sumatra, visa renewal costs, and personal health/travel insurance.

The Project Assistant will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator/Manager and assist in all aspects of the project’s work.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Organising and supervising short-term volunteers
  • Possible forest trekking and observation of wild orangutans in the jungle with staff and volunteers, including overnight camping for several days
  • Data entry
  • Specimen collection, preparation, and weighing
  • Assisting Project Coordinator or Project Director with any requested tasks

Contract Duration: Six months minimum commitment with definite possibility of longer-term opportunity.
